Hello, Yeah, It's Been a While, Not Much, How 'Bout You>
What I've been up to lately.
- Well, I took a break in November to write a novel in a completely different genre. 75,130 words about football and religion. Yup, that was kind of a waste of time.

- Preparing books five and six for e-book format. (Books 1-4, already available) In addition to fixing typos and retconning, discovered a Supermassive plot hole in Book 05 that will be plugged in the e-book version.
- Decided that structuring a key chapter of Book 12 around tentacle Hentai just won't work.
- Have the back stories of all twelve of the original colonies on the wikia page.

OK, back to work I go. (Yeah, Blogger fudged up the numbering. Not my fault.

I Just Wrote
"Does it ever bother you that you work for an insane trillionaire who wants to become an immortal worm-woman?"
It will make sense in context.

Book 12 Update
Writing is at one of those slow points. I have tried to force myself to put out words, but they form into sentences that lack wit and verve. And I don't have enough written to justify rewriting yet. Outlined Chapter 23 as the last Chapter. Now I have to figure out how to get there from Chapter 05, which is the last chapter actually drafted out. Chapter 6 is a problem because it's supposed to be very action-packed and I know how I want it to end, but I don't know how to get it there.
Also, I ran into a problem in that late in the book, a specific character has to do a specific action; the entire plot hinges on it. If I kill off a certain other character whom this pivotal character is very attached to (OK, I'm talking about Trajan Lear and Matt Driver, I don't think that's a spoiler) it makes his action easily understandable from a motivational standpoint. On the other hand, I have had a joke in mind since way back about the time I was writing Book 04 that requires that this other character be alive. So, do I want an emotional rationale that will make a certain pivotal action understandable even though it is out-of-character, or do I want to go for the joke.
Yeah, I'll go for the joke. What else would I do?

Working
Book 12 is coming along slowly. I am challenging myself to make it good, and just pack it with jam, but I'm hitting a wall on making it live up to my standard.
In the meantime, I am preparing the previous books for conversion to e-book formats. I am think of using Booktango. I am going through them and doing some editing. Book 02 was such a mess I've done some substantial edits and a little bit of retconning. Book 04 seems to be in pretty good shape.

Dumb Idea For My Weekend
It occurs to me that I have more than the usual amount of toys to play with in Book 12. Would it be fun (and also a lazy way of establishing character) if I made the captains of some of the other ships parodies of starship captains from other genres? Captaing Hepburn? Captain Juniper? Captain Bowman? Captain Fishhead? Captain Duo (or Duet)?
I have to think on this. And speaking of bad ideas for the weekend...

Got the Groove Back
I was beginning to think I had writer's block because I just couldn't get 12 moving. But the dam seems to have broken. Chapter 01 is basically written. It isn't that funny, but it is written. Chapter 02 is kind of a problem child, but 03 seems to be working itself out. And I got some ideas of how to bring teh funneh. I had already planned a Halo/C3PO parody. (Imagine if 343 Guilty Spark were as flaming as C-3PO. That's what I'm talking about.) And I am playing with the idea of a Dr. Who parody figure tentatively called Dr.Whatever. (Because there is some ... kind of sort of but not really... time travel in Book 12 as I have it planned out.
Also, I had been thinking David Alkema would get into a romantic relationship with Reena Decker from Book 11. But I have introduced in Book 12 a character of Honoria Keeler, who is the great-great-great-great grand niece of Bill Keeler and they seem to be hitting it off pretty well. So, we'll see what happens.
Spoiler Beyond the break.
